Don and I recently experienced a relaxing weekend in Point Reyes, CA. at the quirky Manka's Lodge. I read about it in a 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, ( US and Canada version ) and thought it might be a perfect quick getaway from SF. Point Reyes was very remote, and not being the athletic type, once was probably good for me. If you're a hiker, biker or naturalist, it will be right up your alley. Manka's Lodge is really quite charming however and the food is terrific. This area is known for local honey, cheese, dairy and fresh vegetables, meats, etc. and everything we ate throughout the weekend was wonderful. A fireside supper was delivered to our cottage and it couldn't have been more romantic. I love northern CA becuase there are so darn many places to spend a weekend, or longer. Point Reyes is one you may not be familiar with, but when you tire of the Napa and Carmel scene, it's a nice alternative.
